Give an hour.
Change someone's day.

At Kancare, we believe that genuine community is one of the most powerful forms of care. Our volunteer programme connects residents with people from outside the centre, including students, professionals, artists, musicians, and families, because they bring energy, stories, and human connection that enriches life beyond what a care team alone can offer. Volunteering at Kancare is not charity work. It is a two-way exchange, and many of our volunteers tell us that they leave each session having received as much as they've given.

Why Volunteering Matters At Kancare

Many of Kancare's residents have reduced social contact with the outside world. For some, a volunteer visit may be the most stimulating conversation of their week. For others, a music session or a shared craft activity reconnects them with a part of themselves they feared was lost. Research consistently shows that meaningful social engagement improves cognitive function, reduces depression, and extends quality of life in older adults. Our volunteers are not an optional extra…they are part of the care ecosystem.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEERING

How you can contribute

Companionship Visits

Simply spending time with a resident, in conversation, reading together, walking in the garden, or watching a film. No specialist skills required. Just your presence and your attention.

Skills-Based Volunteering

If you have a skill…music, art, storytelling, yoga, cooking, language teaching…we would love to incorporate it into our resident activity programme. Our residents are more interested and capable than most people expect.

Corporate & Group Volunteering

Companies, organisations, and faith groups looking for meaningful community engagement opportunities are warmly welcome at Kancare. Group visits, activity sponsorship, and collaborative events are all possible. Contact us to discuss what might work.

Student Placements

We offer structured placements for medical, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, and psychology students. Placements are supervised, structured, and provide genuine clinical and human learning. Contact us for placement terms.

NRI & Remote Supporters

If you are based overseas but want a tangible connection to Kancare's community — whether on behalf of your own family or simply because this cause resonates with you — we welcome remote volunteer contributions including sponsorship of activities, online storytelling sessions, and more. Speak to us about how you can get involved from wherever you are.

Who Can Volunteer

Volunteering is open to:

  • Individuals from any background and of any age
